Pink grapefruit

Botanical name: Citrus Paradisi
Common name: Pink grapefruit

General features: The grapefruit is a delicate and not very cold-hardy citrus fruit. It has a globular crown with dense foliage and deeply growing roots. The leaves are thin and long, dark green in colour. The flowers are white and rather large, with a diameter of up to 3 cm. The fruits are grouped in clusters and are large globular berries, called hesperides, which are large when ripe with a yellow skin with very delicate and ornamental pink hues.

Curiosity: The grapefruit is the only citrus fruit supposedly not from south-east Asia, but from Central America. It is said to have been discovered in 1750, probably in Barbados or the Bahamas.

Ornamental virtues: The success of the grapefruit in the ornamental sector has recent origins and is certainly linked, in addition to the beauty and large size of its flowers and fruit, to the latter's ability to remain on the branches for a long time.
